Glen R. Sandy

Glen R. Sandy, 86, of Gomer, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at Lima Memorial Hospital. He was born June 30, 1930, in Cairo to Floyd R. and Margaret (Griffeth) Sandy . Both preceded him in death. He was united in marriage to Verona Ann Jervis on July 29, 1951; she preceded him in death on March 24, 2009. He is survived by one son, Wayne (Pam) Sandy of Texas and two daughters, Karen (Earl) Ogle and Rhonda (Jeff) Stubbs, both of Indiana; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Jeannette Wood of Lima and two sister-in-laws, Ruth and Ruby Sandy. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ed and Ken Sandy, and a sister, Julia (Kenny) Luginbill. Glen was a self-employed electrician with Sandy Electric for over 40 years. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Glen was a member of the Gomer Congregational Church, VFW 3035, Elida Athletic Boosters, the Welsh Society of Northwest Ohio, and Gomer Dads Club along with being volunteer probation officer and Gomer Midget Football coach. He was also a past Commander of Elida VFW and a past member of Allen County Board of Health. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Gomer Congregational Church. Rev. Jim Wilder and Dr. Stephen Sandy will officiate. Military graveside services will follow at Carmen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at Harter and Schier Funeral Home and one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
