Paul A. Rellinger

January 29, 1926 ~ September 19, 2017 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Paul A. Rellinger, 91, of Ft. Jennings, passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at the Meadows of Kalida.  He was born on January 29, 1926, in Ottoville, to August and Pauline (Flatz) Rellinger.  Both preceded him in death.

Paul was a brother to nine siblings.  He is survived by his sister Lucina Donaldson.  He was preceded in death by four sisters; Adelaide Smith, Mary Metzger, Imelda Stechschulte and Isabelle Markward; four brothers, his identical twin Karl, Oscar, John and Art Rellinger.  He is leaving behind many loving nephews and nieces including his nephew Dave and wife Kathy Rellinger who had a close relationship with him; sister-in-law Mary Rellinger; brother-in-law Don Markward; a best friend and Army brother from WWII, Glen Pearson of Sycamore, Illinois; and “his extended family” the amazing staff at the Meadows of Kalida.

Paul was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 18 and worked as a skilled heavy equipment operator throughout northern Ohio.  He was also an avid fisherman, hunter and enjoyed sports.  He was a member of the Ottoville VFW Post #3740.  He was a veteran, serving as PFC in Company E, 309th Infantry, and 78th Division in WWII.   He was devoted to his faith at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ft. Jennings. 

Paul’s final years were spent appreciating all those who visited him during his time at the Meadows of Kalida, especially the staff who cared for him with extreme love and compassion. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, September 25, 2017, at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ft. Jennings.  Father Mark Hoying will officiate.  Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ottoville, where the Ottoville VFW and the Ft. Jennings American Legion Rifle Squad will conduct military grave side rites.  Visitation will be Sunday, September 24, 2017, from 4:00-8:00 pm at Harter and Schier Funeral Home in Delphos and one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or Putnam County Hospice.
