Peter A. Hofmann, 75, of Elida, passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday, April 1, 2024. He was born October 28, 1948 in College Point, New York, to Arthur and Catherine Hofmann. They both preceded him in death. On June 26, 1993, he married the love of his life, Mary Baumgartner, who survives in Elida.
Peter is also survived by his son, Joshua (Heather) Hofmann of Durango CO; his daughters Terra (Mark) McCrory of San Diego CA, Lisa (Jerry) Cowan of Carmel, IN and Nicole (Matt) Walker of Libertyville, IL; a brother, Raymond (Adele) Hofmann of Bellmore NY; 12 Grandchildren, Jared (Emily), Nicholas, Allison, Kylie, Alyssa, Michael, Emily, Kiya, Mikael, Julia, Jenna and Erica; brothers and sisters in law, Sharon (Dave) Moore of Columbus, OH, JoAnn (Larry) Troyer of Continental, OH, Janice (John) Freund of Ft. Jennings, OH, Bob (Carol) Baumgartner of Delphos, OH; numerous nieces and nephews, including Paul (Stephanie) Hofmann and Carol Jenks; and dear friends, including Tom and Laura Ring, Jack and Dian Staup, Dan and Sandy VonSossan.
Peter graduated from Brooklyn School of Pharmacy with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He worked as a Pharmacist for 10 years, before becoming General Manager of Public Service Marine/Harley Marine Services. While there he was responsible for developing a Vapor Recovery System. He was a Vietnam Veteran of the United States Navy; during one of his eight tours of duty he received the Purple Heart. He was always active in church activities including, President of Missions Committee at both Trinity UMC and Zion UMC; he was a past Trustee at the Delphos Canal Museum where he was responsible for setting up their train display; he was a volunteer at the Delphos Postal Museum; a Freemason, belonging to Hope Lodge 214; a Scottish Rite; a lifelong member of the VFW; and member of the Teamsters Union.
Peter loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, especially when he took grandkids. He enjoyed setting up trains in the HO, G and O gauge. He also enjoyed photography and traveled extensively throughout the USA and other Countries, with his wife Mary. Peter had a passion for cooking. He was Julia Child’s biggest fan and would find an excuse to cook for anybody and everybody. There was never a food that he didn’t enjoy.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 am on Friday, April 5th, 2024, at Zion United Methodist Church, Elida. Visitation will be held from 2-8 pm on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at Harter & Schier Funeral Home, in Delphos, with Masonic Services at 7 pm. Burial will be held on Monday, April 15, 2024, in Dayton National Cemetery at 10 am.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, in honor of his grandchildren.
