Russell E Thompson

Russell E “Russ” Thompson, (77) formerly of Delphos passed away Monday, April 8th, 2024 at his residence in Cridersville. He was born February 13th, 1947 in Lima, Ohio to Betty Ruth (Beech) Miller and Stewart Osborn Thompson.  They both preceded him in death. He was raised by Russel E. Miller. He was married April 26th , 1970 to Barbara J. (Ewton) Thompson who survives in Cridersville.

Russ is survived by his sons Garrett (Heather) Thompson of Elida and Trevor (Stacy) Thompson of Delphos. Russ is also survived by his 14 grandchildren: Elizabeth, (Anthony), Destiny, (Seth), Arielle, Kayla, Taylor, (Kaileigh), Brayden, Aarik, Anzlee, Koltyn, Noelle, Jaxon; and three great grandchildren: Marleigh, Xander, and Legend.

Russ is also preceded in death by his brother, Carl Miller; and his sister Jennie Miller.

Russ graduated from Delphos Jefferson High School.  He served in the Navy as a Corpsman and was attached to the Marine Corps From 1967 to 1969. He was a Vietnam veteran, spending 1968 in-country, where he was a witness to the TET offensive. Following his service to his country, he received an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration at UNOH. He worked 28 years at Sears as a department manager. Russ attended the Christian Union School of the Bible for four years and was then ordained. Following his ordination, he served as the minister at Garden City Christian Union Church in Lima, Ohio for 15 years.

Russ was both an avid golfer and bowler.  However, the activity he most loved was spending time with his family, especially his grand and great grandchildren.  

Funeral services will be held at 11am Friday, April 12th, 2024 at Harter and Schier Funeral home. Rev. Gary Fish will be officiating. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery.  Visitation will be at 4pm-8pm on Thursday April 11th, 2024, and one hour prior to the funeral service, at Harter and Schier Funeral Home.
