Eric Robert Ulm

Eric Robert Ulm, 38, of Newark, Ohio, formally of Delphos, passed away on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at his residence surrounded by his loving family after waging a courageous battle with cancer for more than four months.

Eric was born October 24, 1979, to Kathleen M. and Robert J. Ulm, who survive in Delphos. Eric graduated in 1998 from Delphos St. John’s High School, and continued his education with a Bachelor’s degree from Bowling Green State University graduating in  2002.

Eric married the love of his life, Wendy Shaner, on June 14, 2014, and began the happiest years of his life. Eric was a sixteen year supervisory employee of State Farm Insurance in Newark, Ohio. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.

 His greatest loves were his wife and their daughters, spending time with his family, coaching baseball and basketball, and working on their rural home.  Eric never knew a stranger and always found joy making people laugh even throughout cancer treatments. 

Eric was a fan of all baseball, especially the Chicago Cubs and OSU sports.

Eric is survived by his wife, Wendy and his stepdaughters, Tylynn and Mattisyn Shaner of Newark; one sister, Gina (Corey) Moody of Delphos; two grandmothers,  Dorothy Hoffman and Agnes Ulm of Delphos; his mother- in-law, Jo ( Phil) Painter and father- in-law, Tom  ( Mary) Trusler; four nephews, Ashton and Evan Moody of Delphos and Stephen and Nathan Trusler of Newark; one niece, Mia Trusler; three brothers-in-law, Josh (Sara) Trusler, Jason (Carole) Trusler, and Dan (Bobbie) Painter; one sister-in-law, Cheryl (Steve) Webster;  best friends,  Devin (Lisa) Dempsey of Columbus, and Thomas (Colleen) Robinson of Westerville;  and countless Hoffman and Ulm aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, William Ulm and Elmer Hoffman; one aunt, Susan Hickey; two uncles, Alfred Anderson and Joseph D. Hoffman;  and a nephew, Jacob Trusler.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Delphos.  Father Jacob Gordon and Fr. Daniel Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Friday March 23, 2018, from 2:00 - to 8:00 p.m. at Harter and Schier Funeral Home, at 209 W. 3rd Street in Delphos where a parish wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Eric Ulm Benefit at First Federal Bank of Delphos to help with medical expenses, or Hospice of Central Ohio.
