Ethel B. Burgei

Ethel B. Burgei, 92, of Delphos, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2017, at the Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice Center in Van Wert.

She was born June 26, 1925, in Columbus Grove to Steve and Mary (Weber) Miller. Both preceded her in death. She was united in marriage on November 20, 1946, to Orville H. Burgei; he preceded her in death on June 21, 2013.

She is survived by three sons, Kenneth (Connie) Burgei of Troy, OH, Donald (Judy) Burgei of Hilliard, and Larry (Donna) Burgei of Delphos; three daughters, Mary Jane (John) Morman of Glandorf, Judy (Kevin) Clark of Delphos, and Anne (Dan) Wurst of Ottoville; Daughter-in-law, Judy Burgei of Fort Jennings; four brothers, Ralph (Dorothy) Miller of Kalida, Donald (Dorothy) Miller of Landeck, Virgil Miller of Ottoville, and Art Miller of Florida; four sisters,  Luella Madigan of Wapak, Irene Horner of Lima, Deloris Mesker of Delphos, and Ladonna (Bill) Schlagbaum of Delphos; 25 grandchildren; and 50 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; and sisters-in-laws, Avonelle Burgei, Irene Miller, Norma Vonderembse, and Norma Burgei.

She was preceded in death by a son, Mike Burgei; brother, Norbert (Angela) Miller; sisters, Rita (Leon) Turnwald and Julie (Norm) Kaskel; brothers and sisters-in-laws, Ralph Miller, Judy Miller,  John Madigan, Honk Horner, Bob Mesker, John Burgei, Tom Burgei, Alma (Cammy) Minning, Ruth (Dewey) Pohlman, Rosemary (Art) Pohlman, Ken (Gertrude) Rode, and Gus Vonderembse.

She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Landeck CL of C, a bowling league, and a graduate of Ottoville high school. She was a home maker and she had also sold Avon. Ethel enjoyed being a part of the Van Wert Hospital sewing club, but mostly she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be on Saturday, September 2, 2017, at 9:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Father Daniel Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday, September 1, 2017, from 2-8 p.m. at Harter and Schier Funeral Home. A parish wake will be held at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, Alzheimer’s Association, or St. John’s Parish Foundation.
