Francis L. “Frank” Meyer, Sr., 78, of rural Spencerville, died on October 19, 2018, at his residence.
He was born on December 3, 1939, in Lima to Leonard and Mary Elizabeth “Libby” (Klaus) Meyer who preceded him in death. He married Carolyn Schwinnen on July 5, 1969 who survives in Spencerville.
He is survived by his children, Mary Margaret (Glen) Young of rural Van Wert County, Frank (Samantha) Meyer Jr., of Elida, Jennifer Poling of Elgin, Davin (Mandi) Meyer and Sarah (Ron) Miller of Spencerville; his grandchildren, Johnathan (Bianca) Young of Van Wert County, Nathan, Noah, and Nevin Poling of Elgin, Abigail, Caden, Grace, Stella, and Joseph Meyer and Caleb, Isaac, and Jacob Miller of Spencerville; and two great-grandsons, Mason and Quinn Young of Van Wert; siblings, Paul (Esther) Meyer of Elida, Michael Meyer of St. Mary’s, Lucian “Lou” (Linda) Meyer of Wapakoneta, Marie Meyer, and Elizabeth Jean Meyer of St. Mary’s.
He was preceded in death by two grandsons, Michael Young of Van Wert and Nicholas Poling of Elgin; a son-in-law, Brendan Poling of Mendon; and two brothers, Christopher and John Meyer.
Frank was a 1957 graduate of Delphos St. John’s. He was a long time employee of Fruehauf Corp. in Delphos. In addition, he also farmed, baled and sold hay and straw. Besides working on the farm, he also loved studying Native American culture and collecting their artifacts, chiefly arrowheads and primitive tools.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 22, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Landeck. Visitation will be held from 9:00 – 10:30 that same day at Harter and Schier Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to The Right to Life of Allen County.
