Gertrude J. Geckle, 101, of Elida, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 7, 2018, at Lost Creek Nursing Home. She was born September 1, 1916, in Putnam County to Frank and Clara (Etgen) Utrup. She married Raymond Geckle, who preceded her in death on May 20, 1989.
Those left to cherish her memory include her two sons, Jim (Pam) Geckle of Columbus Grove and Donald Selhorst of Rushsylvania, OH; her daughter, Doris Easterday of Lakeview; step-children, Judi (Joe) Schroeder of Columbus Grove, Barb (John) Griffith of Columbus Grove, and Diane Hart of Pandora; sister, Babe Miller of Ottoville; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Leona and Catherine; brothers, Arnold, Laurence, Rudy, Norman, and infant brother Bernard; and a step- son-in-law, Joe Hart.
Gertrude enjoyed being a homemaker. She was a hardworking, who loved to garden and take care of her home. She loved spending time with her family, especially the times she “partied” with her sisters.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Harter and Schier Funeral Home. Reverend Rich Rakay will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Elida. Friends may call on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
