Helen A. Cross, 91, of Delphos, passed away on June 10, 2018, at St. Rita’s Medical Center. She was born on March 14, 1927, to George and Elizabeth (Hoffman) Martin. On July 15, 1947, she was united in marriage to Fred H. Cross. He preceded her in death on December 17, 2006.
She is survived by four sons; Gerald (Laurita) Cross, Roy (Carol) Cross, Tony (Lisa M.) Cross all of Delphos, and Greg (Kelly) Cross of Ft. Jennings; daughter-in-law, Lisa A. Cross; one sister, Leona Adams of Grover Hill; 17 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary T. Trenkamp; son Fred L. Cross; sisters, Francis Kroeger, Eleonora Grothouse, Irene Kill, Catherine Miller, Viola Studenka, Marie Etzkorn, and Jane Young; one brother, Albert Martin; one great-grandson, Dylan Cross.
Helen was member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, a lifetime member of Delphos VFW #3035 Auxilary and Ladies Altar Society. She retired from Delphos Memorial Home as a certified nurse aid. She had also worked at The Cigar Factory, W.T. Grant Store, Pohl’s Short Stop, The Delphos Herald and helped take care of Cross’ Orchard from 1960-1985. She was a volunteer at the Thrift Shop and helped at her son’s shop, Cliff’s Small Engine. She enjoyed collecting music boxes and wind chimes. She liked taking trips, playing bingo, loved flowers, embroidery, sewing, quilting, and reading.
A mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, June 15, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Father Daniel Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery. Visititation will be held on Thursday, June 14, 2018 from 2-8 Harter and Schier Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made to Delphos Senior Citizens Center or Delphos Thrift Store.
