Herbert Joseph Hempfling, 95, of Delphos, passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2017, at Vancrest in Delphos.
He was born on August 8, 1922, to Albert and Frances (Brinkman) Hempfling. On July 2, 1949, he was united in marriage to Mary Agnes Beining, who preceded him in death on July 14, 2013.
He is survived by two daughters, Judy Hempfling of Yellow Springs, and Mary Lou (Keith) Pohlman of Delphos; son, Jack (Sandy) of Le Roy, New York; 1 sister, Beatrice Miller of Delphos; daughter-in-law, Agnes Hempfling of Carey; 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son, Terry; brother, Cyril Hempfling; and sister, Germaine Hemker.
Herbert was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church. He was in the Navy during WWII, stationed in the South Pacific as a radio operator. Herbert was a lifelong farmer. He worked at Lincoln Highway Dairy for 3o years, following he worked at Sylvania/Phillips in Ottawa retiring after 21 years of service. He was a member of the Eagles and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed travelling with his wife Mary.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at 11:00 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Dennis Walsh officiating. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Harter and Schier Funeral Home with a parish wake at 7:30. Memorial contributions can be made to the St. John’s Parish Foundation.
