Howard Chung Obituary

Howard B. Chung, 51, of Delphos, ran into the arms of Jesus, yelling “I Am Free” on Monday, July 30, 2018 around 2:00 pm at his home surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

He was born July 29, 1967, in Georgetown, Guyana to Richard and Rose (Van Genderen) Chung but spent most his life in Toronto, Canada.  He was united in marriage to Angie McKee, on September 9, 1995.  Angie survives in Delphos along with the couple’s three children, a son,  Cooper Riley Isaac and two daughters, Alexa Christine and Elizabeth  Noelle.

He is also survived by two brothers, Duane (Michelle) Chung of Toronto, Canada and Sven (Silvia) Chung of Milton, Ontario, Canada.   Other life heroes who survive him include: parents-in-law, Tom and Brenda McKee, sister-in-law Lisa (John) Thiel, brother-in-law Thom McKee and dear friends, Chris and Pam Sterling.  These life heroes along with his ten nephews (Kole and Ben McKee; Kix and Jake Thiel; Quinten, Isaiah, Kalev and Zephaniah Chung; Noah and Nicholas Chung) and one niece (Halle Chung) will continue to be a reflection of the influence he had upon their lives.  He is also survived by his beloved papillon, Maggie, and playful shih-poo, Alex who never left his side.   He was preceded in death by his dad, Richard who passed away on December 30, 2017.

Howard attended North Central Bible College in Minneapolis and was an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God.  He served the best years of his life as a youth pastor.  Loving Jesus was the heartbeat of his existence and reaching others with the hope found in Christ was motivation for him to press forward in every situation. He would go to extremes to show how crazy he was for God and make his point: eating live goldfish, earthworms or even crawdads!  Howard had a sense of humor that couldn't be beat. His smile could melt an ice cube.  It was just a year ago that Howard went skydiving which created a smile that would never stop.  He was an avid movie collector and fan of The Notre Dame Fightin’ Irish. He was the captain of surprises and had a way of making everyone he met feel valued.  Howard embraced life with an attitude of courage, determination, kindness, passion and zeal that is rare.  He was always entertaining, lived as an example of God’s grace extended and inspired many.

Howard's love of life was only exceeded by his love for his family.  He was a devoted husband to Angie and Dad to Cooper, Alexa, and Lizzie. Howard loved to plan special moments to remind them of his commitment and love throughout the trials of MS. MS did not destroy their family or their joy in living because of a deep commitment to God and to one another.  Howard led the family through the difficulty of MS by living his life verse, Proverbs 3:5-6,  “Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path.”
