John J Stant

John J. “Hook” Stant, 65, of Delphos, passed away on Tuesday, January 08, 2019, surrounded by his loving family at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.

He was born September 20, 1953, in Lima to Leroy Robert and Rita Helen (Bendele) Stant who both preceded him in death.

He is survived by a daughter, Trisha (Jack) Webb of Evansville, IN; two brothers, Daniel (Mart) Stant of Mendon, and Richard (Karen) Stant of Landeck; four sisters, Nancy Zachrich of Leipsic, Bonnie (Mike) Luke of Wapakoneta, Kathi Stant of Wapakoneta, and Darlene (Rick) Pohlman of Delphos; three grandchildren, Damion, Kylie and Ryan and a sister-in-law, Sylvia Stant.

John was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Thomas, and Roger Stant; two sisters, Betty Burwell and Doris Seibert; two brothers-in-law, Pete Burwell and Bob Seibert, and a sister-in-law, Virginia Stant.

John was a farmer and truck driver.  More than that, he was a man who spent his life helping others so much that he was known as “Good Guy” because of his many acts of kindness.  He was often seen driving his John Deere Lawnmower around town as he would mow many people’s lawns that needed mowed.  In the winter he would remove snow so that kids could walk to school easier.  He would have given the shirt off his back for anyone in need.  He loved gardening, and being with his nieces and nephews.  He always took them to get candy and pop.

He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, and a 1972 graduate of St. John’s.  He was very strong in his faith. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, January 10, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Father Scott Perry will officiate. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, from 3-8 p.m. with a parish wake to begin at 7:30 p.m. at Harter and Schier Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the family for medical expenses or to CHP Hospice Center.  John requested that people dress casual.
