Richard Auer, 73, of Delphos, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2019, at his home following a long battle with cancer.
He was born on December 26, 1945 to Richard and Fairy (Cross) Auer. Both preceded him in death. On October 11, 1980, he was united in marriage to Rebecca Hile. She survives in Delphos.
Richard is survived by eight daughters, Angela (Jimmy Smith) Cross of Delphos, JoAnn Gibson of Shelby, Carolyn (Dave) Lindeman of Delphos, Teresa (Jimmy) Stanton of Huntertown, IN, Brenda (Faith Askins) Cress of Lima, Gail (Mark Ditto) Gibson, Christina (Trey Raines) Auer, and Anna Auer, all of Delphos; five sisters, Carol (Jerry) Hirn of Ohio City, Dianne (Norman) Mullenhour of KY, Shirley (Buck) Hall of Celina, Pat (Harley) Dunkin of Ottoville, and Mitzi (Dave) Huffine of Van Wert; a brother- in- law, Delmer Kohorst, and a sister- in- law, Karen Auer; 26 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Sue Ann Kohorst; a brother, Gary Auer; and his stepfather, George Sterling.
Richard was a member of the Delphos Eagles #471. He was a welder by trade working at Fruehauf and Haulette in Celina. He loved to work with wood making crafts, loved to play pool, to garden, and to bird watch.
A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, July 26, 2019, at Harter and Schier Funeral Home. Rev. Rich Rakay will preside. Burial will be at a later date at Walnut Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 25, at the funeral home, and one hour prior to services. Memorial donations are to be made to donor’s choice.
