Urban Conrad Fuerst, 97, of Delphos, passed away on Friday, August, 2, 2019, at Van Crest Healthcare Center.
He was born on June 9, 1922, in Delphos to Hank and Rosa (Saum) Fuerst. His mother remarried Gus Fuerst. Urban married Ann Hotz who passed away in September of 2000.
Urban is survived by three daughters, Jenny (Mike) Daniel of Troy, OH, Pam (Bill) Baxter of LaGrange, IN , and Teresa (Gary “Red”) Wolke of Delphos; one son, Duane “Dewey” (Bev) Fuerst of Van Wert; one grandson whom he raised, Zach Benner of Nashville, TN; eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and step-father; a daughter, Debra Benner; sisters, Fronie Rode, Vena Rode, Rita Mater, Gussie VanAutreve, and Ellie Bohnlein Lehmkuhle.
Urban was member of the United States Army serving in the South Pacific in World War II and recalled during the Korea Conflict. He worked at the Tank Depot and Ford Motor Company, then worked for the Federal Government retiring after 25 years. After retirement, he worked for the state and VanCrest Healthcare Center. Urban was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Eagles #471, a lifetime member of the VFW post 3035, and a past member of the Delphos Knights of Columbus. He was a past owner of Fuerst Dress Shop on Main St. in Delphos. Urban was a jack of all trades and could fix anything.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 5, 2019, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Father Tony Vera will officiate. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Military Grave Rites will be performed by Delphos Veterans’ Council. Visitation will be Monday at Harter and Schier Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to VanCrest Activities Fund.
