Arthur L. Swartz

Arthur “Art” L. Swartz, 86, of Elida, passed away at 4:52 p.m. on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at Vancrest of Delphos. He was born in Turner, MI, on January 4, 1935 to Henry and Anna (Good) Swartz. They preceded him in death. On November 14, 1959, he was united in marriage to Janet Good. She survives in Elida.

Arthur is survived by his children, Paul (Carol) Swartz of Botkins, Nathan (Mary Ann) Swartz of Smyrna, TN, Donita (Stan) Brenneman of Elida, Rachel Swartz of Delphos, Samuel (Ashlee) Swartz of East Earl, PA, and Jonathan (Adrienne) Swartz of Elida; 17 grandchildren with one on the way, 10 great-grandchildren with two on the way; sisters, Esther Stutzman of Middlebury, IN and Caroline Fath of Midland, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Wilma Swartzentruber, and brother, Henry Swartz, Jr.

Art grew up on a dairy farm in Michigan and worked alongside his father as a carpenter. He served during Vietnam as a 1-W at a hospital in Indiana. After getting married, they served on the mission field, in Macon, MS, starting a farm co-op. After moving to Ohio, he became a self-employed carpenter, not afraid of a challenge-a true jack of all trades. He is known for his humorous jokes and storytelling and loved to make people laugh. He attended Cable Road Alliance Church.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Pike Mennonite Church (3995 McBride Rd, Lima, OH 45807), Pastor Richard Jueckstock, officiating. Burial will follow in Pike Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Pike Mennonite Church.
