Avonelle Ann Burgei, 88, of Delphos, passed away at 6:25 p.m. on Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at Vancrest of Delphos. She was born January 9, 1932, in Delphos, to Homer and Helen V. (Buettner) Paul. They preceded her in death. She was united in marriage to John Joseph Burgei on May 16, 1953; he preceded her in death on February 13, 1990.
She is survived by her children, Richard (Joyce) Burgei of Indianapolis, IN, Joseph (Tami Augsburger) Burgei of Delphos, Barbara (Tom) Markward of Ottoville, Marilyn (Robert) Metzger of Delphos, Patricia (Dennis) Fuge of Spencerville, and Tina (Charles) Wannamacher of Delphos; one sister, Betty L. Beech of Southern Ohio; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren. Her proudest achievement was her big family that she loved spending time with.
She is preceded in death by a sister, M. Lynette Mooney; a granddaughter, Michelle Metzger; and her loving companion, Richard Elwer.
Avonelle was a homemaker and a farmer’s wife. She was a 1950 graduate of Delphos Jefferson. She was a member of Delphos St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the Eagles Aerie #471. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, quilting, and baking. She also baked wedding cakes for many years. She loved going gambling with her family.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 8, 2021, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 7, 2021, with a Wake Service at 7:30 p.m. at Harter & Schier Funeral Home.
