Betty Beech-Vasquez, 93, of Delphos, passed away at 1:15 a.m. on Saturday, March 13, 2021, at The Meadows of Delphos. She was born December 30, 1927, at home in Scott’s Crossing, OH, to Homer and Helen V. (Buettner) Paul. They preceded her in death. On February 4, 1946, she was united in marriage to Alton Blythe, Jr. He preceded her in death in July 1947. Betty was then united in marriage to Paul “Ike” L. Beech on October 16, 1954. He passed away on August 27, 1984. On November 28, 1994, she was united in marriage to Bernardo “Ben” Vasquez. He preceded her in death on March 18, 2001.
Betty is survived by her children, Helen Miller of South Salem, OH, Ginger (Lee) Beech of Mt. Vernon, OH, Zelpha Dee (Randall) Daley of Van Wert, Paula L (Matt) Dague of Marysville, OH, Joanna (Robert) Osborn of Elida, OH, Elizabeth Jane (Larry) Copeland of Delphos; three stepchildren, Paul E. (Carol) Beech of MI, Terry Stapleton of Lima, and Peggy Stapleton of IN; 30 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, three husbands, two children, “The Chosen One” Lori Saffle and Albert Leroy Beech; sisters, Avonelle Burgei and M. Lynette Mooney; and six great-granddaughters.
Betty was a graduate of Delphos Jefferson High School, Class of 1946. She worked at the Scott’s Crossing store, Wheel-In Restaurant, Metzger Popcorn, and was a cook at St. Rita’s Medical Center. She was a member of the Ladies VFW Auxiliary and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was very active within these groups and served on the committees. Betty loved to dance. She was an avid square dancer. She enjoyed tending to her large garden and raised rabbits. Betty was known to be quite feisty and raised seven children. Family was her everything.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 18, 2021, at Harter & Schier Funeral Home, Delphos, OH. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Pastor Rick Burgei will officiate. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 17, 2021, at Harter & Schier Funeral Home.
