Beverly J. Cross-McNeal, 65, of Delphos, went home to her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at St. Rita’s Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 14, 1957, in Lima, to Art and Joyce Cross. They are both deceased.
Bev is survived by a son, Sean McNeal of Delphos; a brother, Luke Cross of Delphos; and a nephew, A.J. Cross of Delphos.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Tammy Cross, who died in 2011; a brother, James A. Cross Jr., who died in 1994; and a nephew, Tyler Cross, who died in 1999, and many aunts and uncles.
Bev was a member of the Delphos Wesleyan Church. She was a proud public servant. She served the Delphos community for 33 years as a Sergeant of the Delphos Police Department. Her role was also a historical one for Delphos, having served as its first female police officer and later becoming the first woman to be promoted to Sergeant. She retired in 2013. Bev also volunteered with the Delphos Community Christmas Project and within the public school system. She was the recipient of the Delphos Woman of the Year Award in 1998. After retirement, she enjoyed going out to eat with friends, taking trips with her son, Sean, going to the movies and the zoo, and catching up on her favorite TV shows streaming online.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at Harter & Schier Funeral Home. Pastor Pam Geise will officiate. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at Harter & Schier Funeral Home.
