Daniel L. Adkins, 75, of Mt. Gilead, passed away Monday, April 18, 2022, at Country Meadows Nursing Home in Bellville, OH. He was born September 6, 1946, in Candua, WV, to Jonah and Bertha (Isaac) Adkins. They both preceded him in death. On May 28, 1972, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Beatty. She preceded him in death on September 10, 2020.
Daniel is survived by sons, Kenneth (Loretta) Ball of Mansfield, Raymond (Debbie) Ball of Mt. Gilead, and Tim (Molly) Adkins of Mansfield; daughter, Kim Adkins of Mansfield; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Beatty of Defiance, Pat Beatty of Ontario, Flora Adkins and Fredia Adkins both of Mansfield; granddaughters Elizabeth (Jordan) Snow of Mt. Vernon, Peggy Sue (John) Rush of Mansfield, Stephanie (Jeff) Rueckert of Mansfield; and multiple great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Daniel was preceded in death by brothers, Charles, Bill, and Beecher (Judy) Adkins.
Daniel was a graduate of Mansfield High School. He served in the United States Army from 1968-1970. He was in the 2nd armor CAV in Europe, earning the National Defense Service Medal and sharpshooter M-14. He was a boiler operator at Bunge-Central Soya. He was a life member of the VFW Post #3035 and the Delphos Eagles Aerie #471. He played guitar in the Country Creed Band. Daniel loved spending time with his wife, listening to music, playing cards, board games, horseshoes, and cornhole, and fishing.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at Harter & Schier Funeral Home. Pastor Steve Haddix will officiate. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at Harter & Schier Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
