Florine "Penny" (Gabel) Wurst

Florine “Penny” Wurst, 77, of Delphos, passed away on Monday, June 17, 2024 at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s. She was born on February 8, 1947, in Bellville, Illinois to Edwin and Helen (Wentzel) Gabel. They preceded her in death. On June 10, 1967 she was united in marriage to John E Wurst. He preceded her in death April 8, 1988.

She is survived by her children, Mike (Julieta) Wurst, Scott (Liz) Wurst, Sarah (Scott) Brotherwood, and Jodi (Wade) Fenwick and her eight grandchildren Emma, Eli, August, Virginia, Mia, Grace, Samantha, and Reese.

She is also survived by her siblings Doris (Dale) Dickman, Charlie (Sue) Gabel, and Danny (Maryann) Gabel and her honorary children Shane, Torrance, Gavin, and Scott.

Penny was also preceded in death by her daughter Laura Sue.

Penny graduated from Delphos Jefferson High School. While her children were in school she was a Jefferson band booster. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Delphos. She was also a volunteer at the Interfaith Thrift Store. Penny enjoyed puzzles, coloring, sewing, crafts, and winning at board games. But most of all she loved being with her family, most especially the grandkids.

She was dearly loved by all of her friends and family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday June 21, 2024, at First United Presbyterian Church, Pastor Steve Stelle officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery. Memorial visitation will be held 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday June 20, 2024 at Harter & Schier Funeral Home.
