Gary Vandemark Obituary

Gary Vandemark passed away on November 5, 2021, at Vancrest in Delphos.  He was born at home on May 29, 1935 in Gomer, Ohio to Glen G. and Margaret (Powell) Vandemark.  Gary graduated from Gomer High School class of 1953 and attended Bluffton University.  On March 25, 1956 Gary married Sherran (Ellis) Vandemark and they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past spring.

Gary is survived by his brother Bud Vandemark, his twin sister Mary (Thomas) Williams, brother-in-law Von (Carol) Ellis and Gary’s six children: Lori Vandemark; Juli Vandemark; Scott Vandemark and his three children, Matthew, Annette and Garrett; Brett (Jeanette) Vandemark and their children Justin (Mala) and Tyler;  Jodi (Benjamin) Scherner and their children, Nicholas, Natalie, Megan, Jack and Olivia; Jason (Cheri) Vandemark and  their children, Hailey, Andrew and Aaron; and, Gary’s three great-grandsons, Parker, Cole and Leeland, along with many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sherran’s parents Paul and Hazel Ellis, infant brother James, sister Earlene (Ray) Keirns, brother Dennis (Jane) Vandemark, sister-in-law Betty Vandemark and his very best furry pal MacTavish.

Gary was a very hard worker, often working two jobs to provide for his family and kept to his motto of “a job worth doing is worth doing well.”  He loved his Boston Red Sox, sprint car racing and playing endless games of cards with the ‘Simpletons’.

Private graveside service will be held at Pike Run Cemetery in Gomer.  The family would like to thank Mick Murphy and the wonderful staff at Vancrest of Delphos and the caring nurses at St. Rita’s Hospice.  Donations can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation Ohio, 2800 Corporate Exchange Drive, Suite 265, Columbus, Ohio  43231, www.parkinson.org.
