George F. Ervin

George F. Ervin, 90, of Delphos, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2023, at Vancrest-Sarah Jane Living Center of Delphos. He was born October 21, 1932, in Jackson, OH, to Kenneth and Wilma (Norris) Ervin. They preceded him in death. On June 4, 1953, he was united in marriage to Wanda Malone. She survives in Delphos.

George is also survived by son Jerry Ervin of Hudson, MA; two daughters, Beth Hardesty (Karl Frederick) of Lima and Jayne (Neil) Bair of Columbus Grove; and three grandchildren, Jared (Dana Weigel) Hardesty, Adam (Jessica) Bair and Amy Bair; and one great-granddaughter, Emma Tobe.

George was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, O. Stanley Ervin, Sr., and a sister, Dorothy Holberg.

George was a graduate of Wellston High School. From 1952 to 1954, he served as a Corporal in the United States Army in Korea. George received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Rio Grande College and a Master’s from Ohio University. The first 13 years of his career as a school administrator were at Waynesfield Goshen Schools. George retired as high school principal from Delphos Jefferson after 27 years. He was a member of Zion Methodist Church and was a member of the United States Trotting Association. George also loved training horses and gardening, often sharing his bounty with others. He was well known for picking black raspberries and having his wife make pies and jelly.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 13, 2023, at Walnut Grove Cemetery. Pastor John Foster will officiate. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2023, and 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday before the funeral service at Harter & Schier Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Vancrest-Sarah Jane Living Center Activities Department or St. Rita’s Hospice.
