Helen Holtzapple, 91, of Elida, passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2018, at Lima Memorial Hospital. She was born on December 3, 1926, in Continental to William and Orah (Ladd) Myers. On September 7, 1946, she was united in marriage to Wayne Holtzapple. He preceded her in death on November 15, 1966.
Helen is survived by two daughters, Sue (Johnnie) McFarland of Elida and Sandy (Arthur) Elsass of Lafayette; one brother, Earl Myers; one sister, Ruth Prowant; six grandchildren, John (Tracy) McFarland, Lisa Hunter, Jenny (James) Sammet, Becky Elsass, Katie (Glenn) Miller, and Jessie Elsass; twelve great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and one on the way. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Marion, Samuel, Virgil “Bud,” Simon, David and Ike Myers; and two sisters, Louise Wagner, and Ethel Ickes.
Helen was an active member of Immanuel United Methodist Church. She was a retired cook and baker for Elida School System where she worked for over 25 years. She was a former volunteer fireman auxiliary member and a former Girl Scout leader. She will be remembered as having made many wedding and birthday cakes. Helen also volunteered at the voting booth during elections.
A visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, August 19, 2018, at Harter and Schier Funeral Home in Delphos. There will also be visitation one hour before the funeral service which will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 20, 2018 at the funeral home. Pastor Terry Porter will be officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
