Helen L. John

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Helen Roberts John, of Elida passed peacefully at Mercy Health-St Rita’s on January 7, 2022.  She was born on May 26, 1927, in rural Ft. Jennings to Albert and Mabel Colwell Roberts who preceded her in death.  On October 21, 1950, she married Richard L. John who passed away on July 7, 1991.

She is survived by two daughters, Rebecca (Lindsey) Foust of Elida and Cynthia (Dennis) Spragg of Lima; grandchildren John (Jennifer), Justin, Jayson (Carrie), and Jeron (Alisha) Foust; Jeffrey (Lura) Sandy; Kelly (Jeffrey) Hoersdig; Kevin Sandy, and Van (Angie) Spragg, and Michelle (John) Berens; great grandchildren Lindsey, Austin, and Alexis Foust; Jessica (Colin) O’Connor, Jenna, Jaycea, and John Foust; Maggie and Jayden Foust, Piper and Sophia Foust; Katheryn and MaKenna Sandy; Megan and Finley Hoersdig; Jade Sandy and Emily (Brad) Brock, Kyle and Drew Spragg; Garrett, Bryce (Dacoda) and Adam Hinegardner, and Meredith Berens; great -great grandchildren, Elsie, Loghan, and Beckett O’Connor and Gavin, Jake and Blaine Brock; a sister, Ruth (James dec.) Siniff of Lima and a sister-in-law, Judith (Ronald dec.) Strayer of Elida; nephews, Tom (Mary) Siniff, Dick Siniff, Troy (Caryn) Strayer and Tim Strayer.  She is also survived by her chosen family Kim and Carol Hardy; Paige, Tom and Carol Hefner; Jennifer, Gary and Vickie Hefner; Kelly, Chris and Steve Hefner, Gretchen and Brittiney.

She was preceded in death by a son, Jesse Robert John; a brother Glen Roberts; and a special friend, Don Hefner. 

Helen was a graduate of Vaughnsville High School and Ft. Wayne Business School.  She was a very outgoing people person and truly enjoyed her time as a greeter at Meijers.  She retired from Lima Animal Hospital.  She was a member of the Welsh Society of Northwest Ohio, Gomer Congregational Church, and attended Elida Immanuel Church.  She was a member of Eastern Star, Delphos #26, serving as Worthy Matron, Grand Representative to Rhode Island, and Grand Page to the Deputy Grand Matron.  She also had previously volunteered in Oncology at St. Rita’s Medical Center.  She loved to travel and especially enjoyed trips to Wales, New York, Canada and loved camping at Lake Erie. 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Elida Immanuel Church.  Burial will follow at Salem Cemetery near Elida.  Visitation will be Friday, January 14, 2022, from 2-8 p.m. at Harter and Schier Funeral Home in Delphos and one hour prior to the service at the church. There will be an Eastern Star Service at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
