J. Kenneth Metzger

John Kenneth “Kenny” Metzger, 90, passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at Lima Memorial Health Systems. He was born March 24, 1933, in Putnam County, OH, to Eugene and Elizabeth (Huysman) Metzger. They preceded him in death. He married Carol L. Powell on October 4, 1953 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Delphos, OH, of which he was a member since 1954. She preceded him in death on January 12, 2023. He graduated from Delphos Jefferson High School with the Class of 1951.

Mr. Metzger was a life-long farmer. He also worked for 21 years at Kill Brothers, retiring in 1993. He then worked part-time for Gressel Leasing, later being K & M Tires. He was a member of the Liar’s Club at Jim’s Restaurant.

Kenny is survived by a daughter, Laura Otto of Grand Rapids, MI; sister, Mildred Brown of Fredericktown, OH; six grandchildren, Kara (James) Thornburg of Grand Rapids, MI, Eric Otto of Birmingham, MI, Patrick Otto of Portland, ME, Haley and Hannah Metzger of Denver, CO, and Daniel (Casey) Yost of Boston, MA; four great-grandchildren, Mason Thornburg, Henrik Otto, Olive Yost, and Noah Beveridge; nieces and nephews, Daniel (Maureen) Teman, Kathy (Doug) Stewart both of Delphos, Mike Teman of Lima, Mark Wilcox of Fredericktown, Jill Snow of Seville, Spain, and Jack (Julie) Snow of Minneapolis, MN

Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Steven Metzger; sister, Joyce Teman, brothers-in-law, Paul Teman and Harold Brown, Ben Snow, and Bruce Burkholder; sisters-in-law, Ruby Snow and Janis Burkholder.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. with calling one hour prior to service at Harter & Schier Funeral Home on Monday, October 9, 2023. Pastor Carol Pretorius will officiate. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 pm to 6 pm on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at Harter & Schier Funeral Home.
