James C. Richardson

James C. Richardson, 86, of Delphos, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2023, at Vancrest of Delphos. He was born August 4, 1937, to Melvin and Zelma (Dickman) Richardson. They both preceded him in death. He was united in marriage to Janice Meyers from 1959-1988. She preceded him in death on October 25, 1988. He married Betty Richardson in 1993. She preceded him in death October 9, 2021.

James is survived by sons, Byron (Virginia) Richardson of Marengo, OH and David (Sharon) Richardson of New Knoxville; stepsons, Randy (Bobbi) Maag and Darrel (Marlene) Maag both of Miller City; daughter, Teresa (Dave) Thitoff of Delphos; stepdaughter, Brenda (Greg) Brinkman of Leipsic; brothers, Carl, Mike, and Rick Richardson; nine grandchildren, and 33 great-grandchildren.

James was also preceded in death by a brother, Paul Richardson.

James was a graduate of Delphos Jefferson. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Involved in the Audubon Society in Van Wert, James participated in the Christmas bird count. He enjoyed woodworking, beekeeping, gardening, and socializing around the campfire; politics and religion were his favorite subjects. James never knew a stranger, talking to everyone! As a kid, he would set pins at Delphos Bowling Alley. He worked at Sheller Globe making seats for school buses. He then went on to work at the post office; he said he “knew everyone’s zip code, even Jesus’”. James also rode and volunteered his time for at least 13 years at the Great Ohio Bicycle Adventures.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11 am on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3-8 pm on Friday, October 20, 2023, at Harter and Schier Funeral Home with a Wake Service at 7:30 pm.
