Jeffrey L. Metcalfe, born August 4, 1951, died today, March 25, 2024. Beloved husband, father, brother, grandpa, friend, and son, Jeff journeys to Heaven to meet the Heavenly Father and previously deceased family at The Gates: Father and Mother Carroll “Archie” and Mary Lou Metcalfe, brothers David and Ron Metcalfe, and more.
Jeff will shine down upon his wife Carol (Geise) Metcalfe whom he married on August 17, 1973; his children Doug (Jennie Salinas) and Lisa (Brad Dudgeon); grandchildren Alex, Luke, Talen, MaKayla, Gracelyn, and Haden; brothers and sisters Roger, Steve (Diane), Deb, Mike (Julie), Diane (Jeff Will), Chuck (Elaine), and Jim; sister-in-law Alison, nieces, nephews, and 17,000 other members from the Metcalfe tree.
To a child, a good father is a Master of the Universe. Thanks to Jeff and his wife Carol, Doug and Lisa have the power…a power to carry forward that legacy and ensure it endures forever through the character and love they were raised with and through Jeff’s grandchildren Alex, Luke, Talen, MaKayla, Gracelyn, and Hayden.
Happy memories will always breathe through the songs of the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s that were part of every trip to St. Mary’s Lake, family reunions, picnics, camping, fishing, sand volleyball, softball, bowling, and every moment of life with his family.
The life of Jeff Metcalfe is synonymous with The Pittsburgh Steelers. To his family, Jeff IS The Steelers. While his health was riding against the wind the last few years, his spirit now rides to Heaven on the wind from every twirl of a Terrible Towel. In his last weekend, Jeff was moved to Hospice Care for a second time since January, when God had blessed us with unbelievable healing more Immaculate than a historic Franco Harris playoff catch…a true miracle of more time. Following the undeniable intervention from God and resilient strength displayed in Jeff’s body, this time in Hospice Care, Jeff was ready to cross the goal line into Paradise.
If there’s a TV in Heaven, Jeff will be smiling at Murder She Wrote, Hogan’s Heroes, The Dukes of Hazzard, Gilligan’s Island, Happy Days, The Andy Griffith Show, Bonanza, and more. Jeff loved God, family, his country, and old-fashioned values…including hard work. Jeff retired from the United States Postal Service after forty years with many friends at the Delphos Post Office, and God has him walking a new route now.
Good man and sinner like the rest of us, Jeff is saved by our Holy Father, our Savior Jesus Christ. Just as each “I love you” to his children Lisa and Doug was followed with “You’re my daughter” and “You’re my son”, a life of faith and love is now rewarded with Jeff hearing the same from God: “I love you, Jeff. You’re my son.”
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 pm to 7 pm on Monday, April 1, 2024, at Harter and Schier Funeral Home with a Parish Wake Service at 6:45 pm on Monday.
