John Eugene Sheeter, 84, of Delphos, passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2023, at his residence. He was born November 9, 1938, in Lima, OH, to Eugene and Bernice (Kemper) Sheeter. He was united in marriage to Ruth Gasser on July 3, 1965. She preceded him in death on June 14, 2005.

John is survived by his sons, John “Jay”(Doreen) Sheeter and Steve Sheeter, both of Delphos; grandchildren, Ashley (Nick) Dunlap, Austin Sheeter, Abbey (Adam Hamel) Sheeter, Addison Sheeter, Taylor Sheeter, and Marissa Sheeter; great-grandchildren, Raylee Sheeter, Kaedyn Sheeter, Kensyn Dunlap and Laylin Dunlap; sister, Jill Topp; special friend, Janice Mace; sisters-in-law, Jen German, Theresa Gasser both of Ft. Jennings, and Marsha Gasser of Delphos; and brothers-in-law, Tom (Martha) Gasser of Delphos and Stanley (Kathi) Gasser of Ft. Jennings.

John was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, Helen (Stallkamp) Sheeter; great-grandson, Hexley Hamel; brothers-in-law, Larry Topp, Richard German, Jim Gasser, and Carl Gasser.

John was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Eagles Aerie #471, American Legion Post #268, VFW Post #3035, Knights of Columbus, the Lima Elks, and Dodge Boys. He served in the United States Army. John owned County Line Auto Wrecking from 1972 to present and the Star Bar. He sold cars at Sheeter Motor Sales for his father, Eugene. John was the Mayor of Delphos from 1992-2000. He was a volunteer fireman for Delphos Fire Department for many years. John truly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends; especially watching his grandchildren play sports.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Military Grave Rites will be conducted by the Delphos Veterans Council. Visitation will be held from 2 pm to 8 pm on Friday, August 18, 2023, at Harter & Schier Funeral Home. A Parish Wake Service will be held on Friday at 7:30 pm.
