Kathleen M. Hittle

Kathleen (Schmersal) Hittle, 80, passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center. She was born July 17, 1944, in Lima, OH, to Eugene and Dorothy (Wright) Schmersal. They both preceded her in death.

Kathleen is survived by children, Daniel (Karen) Hittle and Linda (P.J.) Johnson both of Spencerville, David Hittle of St. Marys, and Andrew (Mary) Hittle of Glasgow, KY; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and her children’s father, Gary L. Hittle of Celina.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her brothers, William Schmersal and Thomas “Tucker” Schmersal; and sister, Joyce Noonan.

Kathleen was a homemaker and also worked for the Allen County Juvenile Court for many years until her retirement. She was active in the Spencerville VFW Ladies Auxiliary serving for over 12 years as Treasurer. In her spare time, Kathleen enjoyed reading, spending time with family, crocheting, and traveling; especially her trip to Italy.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 14, 2025, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Memorial Visitation will be held from 2-6 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2024, at Harter & Schier Funeral Home with the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Service at 5 p.m. and a Parish Wake Service at 5:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Disabled Veterans of Ohio or the Delphos St. John Scholarship Fund.
