Lois Rase Obituary

Lois Jane Jones Gudakunst Rase was born July 21, 1927, in Allen County to Russell and Edrie (Botkin) Jones.  She married Kenneth Reed Gudakunst on November 9, 1947, and he died January 28, 1970.  She married Ronald Rase on November 4, 1978, and he passed on May 9, 1988.

Her life was lived near the Lincoln Highway in Allen and Van Wert counties in Ohio.  She attended five years of school at Hunsaker One Room School, and graduated from Delphos Jefferson High School in 1945. She then attended Ohio State University in Columbus.  During World War II she worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton.  She held office positions at Rawls Inc, Siferd Hossellman in Lima and Morris Chiropractic Clinic in Delphos. 

Survivors include two children, a daughter, Susan Gudakunst of Columbus, and a son, Craig (Jane) Gudakunst; two grandsons, Douglas (Dani) Gudakunst of Woodbridge, Virginia and Riley (Quinn) Gudakunst of Blue Ridge, Georgia.  She recently received the joyous news of her first great grandchild due in December 2021.

Lois was a member of First United Methodist Church in Van Wert and a former member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Convoy. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Gladys Roediger and Avenell Kelly, and an infant brother, Lester Jones.

At her request there will be a private burial with no visitation or funeral service.  Arrangements are by Harter and Schier Funeral Home.  She will be buried at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Delphos next to her first husband, Kenneth. 

Memorial remembrances are directed to the First United Methodist Church, 113 West Central Street, Van Wert, Ohio 45891 or to Van Wert Emergency Medical Services (EMS).  The family would like to thank EMS services and her wonderful neighbors and friends.
