Mary Ellen Vonderwell

Mary Ellen Vonderwell, 65, of Delphos passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, in her home. She was born April 24, 1957, in Lima, Ohio to John and Alice (Friemoth) Neumeier of Delphos. Both preceded her in death.  On August 1, 1992 she married Cletus “Doc” Vonderwell who preceded her in death on April 7, 2017.

She is survived by two sons, Daniel W. (Marcie) Metzger and Anthony “Tony” (Kelli) Metzger; six grandchildren, Dominic, Braylon, Aubrey, Chase, Maddox, and Ryker; nine brothers and sisters, Kay (Roger) Schlereth, Bill (JoAnn) Neumeier, Roger (Candy) Neumeier, Don (Lois) Neumeier, Tom (Tami) Neumeier, Gary “Tubby” (Marsha) Neumeier, Joanie (Dave) Nijak, Jerry (Doris) Neumeier, and Ben (Cheryl) Neumeier; six step-sons, Michael (Vicki) Vonderwell, Arthur (Brenda) Vonderwell, David (Sue) Vonderwell, Daniel (Jen) Vonderwell, Donald (Barb) Vonderwell, and Richard (Jen) Vonderwell; step-daughter, Marcy (Matty) Swift; two brothers-in-law, Ike Vonderwell, and John Vonderwell; nineteen step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren; former husband Daniel E. Metzger; and a close friend Charles Weber.

She was also preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Jane Neumeier; and nephew, Michael Schlereth.

Mary graduated from Delphos St. John’s in 1975. She worked as a veterinary assistant and office manager for her husband Doc at Vonderwell Veterinary Clinic for over 30 years. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church where she served as Mass greeter and a Eucharistic minister. She was an auxillary member of the Delphos Eagles. Mary was always willing to help family, neighbors, and friends. If there was a project to be done, she was going to help in whatever way she could. Above all, her love and passion were her family. She loved taking care of her grandkids and made sure to attend every event they took part in.  They always knew Grandma was there when they heard her cowbell ringing from the stands.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Delphos St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on Friday, December 23, 2022, at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at Harter and Schier Funeral Home where a parish wake will be held at 7:30pm.
