Merlin “Bud” T. Trentman, 93, of Landeck, passed peacefully away Saturday, January 31, 2026, in the company of his family. He was born on March 5, 1932, in Spencerville, OH, to the late Hilary and Martha (Gengler) Trentman. Merlin was united in marriage to Patricia (Merschman) Trentman on June 2, 1956. She preceded him in death on January 7, 2005, after 49 loving years together. He married Dorothy Grone in 2007.
Merlin is survived by his children, Leo Trentman, Bob (Doris) Trentman of Landeck, Diane Trentman of Delphos, Mary (Kevin) Youngpeter of Landeck and daughter-in-law, Elaine Trentman of Landeck; grandchildren, Tiffany (Jon) Stahl, Todd (Kirstie) Trentman, Brad (Marissa) Trentman, Kyle Youngpeter, and Krista (Domenic) DiFrancesco; and eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Loraditch of Akron, OH, and Rose Etgen of Lakeland, FL; brother, Robert F. (Suzanne) Trentman of Delphos; brother-in-law-, Carl Luersman; and sister-in-law, Jane Trentman.
Merlin was preceded in death by his son, David Trentman; daughter-in-law, Cindy Trentman; grandsons, Ryan Trentman and Tim Trentman; sisters, Virginia Nickols, Noreen Murphy, and Lois Luersman; brother, Tom Trentman; brothers-in-law, Paul Murphy, Andy Loraditch, and Norman Etgen.
Merlin was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Landeck. He served in the United States Army from 1954-1956. Merlin was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus; a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #471. He was a lifelong farmer and worked at the John Deere Implement Store, Fruehauf, IGA/Dave’s Market, D & D Ingredients, and Chief Supermarket. Merlin enjoyed watching the hog shows at the county fair where his grandchildren and great-grandchildren would participate; most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Landeck. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends maybe call from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at Harter & Schier Funeral Home; a Parish Wake will take place at 7:30 p.m.
