Michael D. VanMeter, 71, of Delphos, passed away at 8:20 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2020, at his residence. He was born May 1, 1949 to Dale and Wanda (Maxson) VanMeter; they preceded him in death. On June 20, 1970 he was united in marriage to Peggy Ream; she survives in Delphos.
Michael is survived by one son, Wesley VanMeter and one daughter, Amy West, both of Delphos; three grandchildren, Michael, Josie and Nathan West; two great-granddaughters, Charlie Cunningham and Ruby Gomez; one sister, Diana (Dan) Mullen, of Delphos. He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Robert VanMeter.
Michael owned Delphos Fire Equipment for 35 years and retired after selling his business. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Black Swamp Gun Club, and a social member of the Delphos VFW and Eagles. Michael enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping in his younger years. He enjoyed motorcycles and gardening. Most important to Michael was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2020, at Harter & Schier Funeral Home. Reverend Rick Lamb will officiate. Friends and family may call from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at Harter & Schier Funeral Home.
