Nancy E. Sakemiller, age 79, passed away on April 11, 2026, at Hospice of Cincinnati. She was born November 28, 1946, in Lima, Ohio, to David and Mary (Renner) Humphreys, who both preceded her in death. Nancy was united in marriage to Thomas Sakemiller, who preceded her in death in 2020.
Nancy grew up in Gomer, Ohio, and attended Ohio Northern University, where she earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education. She spent her career at Delphos Jefferson Schools, first as a teacher and later as a guidance counselor, and retired after more than 30 years of faithful service.
Nancy was a passionate golfer and a devoted fan of the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals, finding her greatest joy in spending time with family and cheering on her five grandsons at their athletic events. She had a rare gift for connection, making everyone she met, from friends and neighbors to former students, feel uniquely seen and cared for. She built a quiet legacy of unwavering support, always ready with a listening ear, heartfelt encouragement, or a helping hand, touching countless lives in west-central Ohio, northern Kentucky, and Florida.
She is survived by her two sons, Scott (Lisa) Sakemiller of Lima and Ryan (Samantha) Sakemiller of Cincinnati; five cherished grandchildren: Nicholas (Syrie) Sakemiller, Will Sakemiller, Austin Sakemiller, Andrew (Sydney) Sakemiller, and Connor Sakemiller; two great-grandchildren, Gwen and Lola. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Debbie Humphreys, brother in-law, Craig (Linda) Sakemiller of Lima, and her special friend and companion, Bill Altenburger. Nancy was preceded in death by her brother, John Humphreys.
Visitation will be held at Harter and Schier Funeral Home on Thursday, April 16, from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., with her funeral service immediately following at 6:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Rimer Cemetery on Friday at 11:00 a.m. for those who wish to attend her committal prayer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Nancy’s honor to the Sam Hubbard Foundation (Hubbard’s Cupboard).
