Richard W. Buettner

Richard W. “Dick” Buettner, 83, of Delphos, passed away at 3:50 a.m. on Sunday, January 3, 2021, at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s. He was born at home on the farm in Allen County on October 16, 1937 to Donald C and Lorene H. (Stirn) Buettner. They both preceded him in death. On June 21, 1958, he was united in marriage to Carol M. Wells. She survives in Delphos.

Dick is survived by his children, Lance (Carol A.) Buettner of Lima and Jan (Bill) Wiechart of Delphos; brothers, Thomas (Irma) Buettner of Delphos, Ellis (Amy) Buettner of Lima; sisters, Lois Halliwill of CA, Dorothy Miller of Delphos, and Edna (John) Feathers of WY; sisters-in-law, Isabella Watkins of Lima and Mary Winhover of Delphos; brother-in-law, Clifford Wells of Delphos; five grandchildren, Megan Buettner of Cincinnati, Lauren Buettner of Columbus, Tony, Nick, and Matt Wiechart all of Delphos.

Dick was preceded in death by his infant son, Richard Buettner, parents, and brothers, Donald and George Buettner.

Dick retired from Philips ECG as a member of the 25 year club. He was a steward in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (I.B.E.W.) Union. He was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church in Elida, OH. Dick was an avid fan of the Delphos Jefferson Wildcats and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He loved to farm. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking. Dick’s greatest treasure was his grandchildren and spending time with them. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Harter & Schier Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at Harter & Schier Funeral Home. 

Memorial contributions may be made to The James Cancer Hospital, Solove Research Institute or to Zion United Methodist Church in Elida, OH.
