Ronald Fetzer Obituary

Ronald John Fetzer, 77, of Ottoville, Ohio (formally of Delphos) passed away February 4, 2024 at the V.A. Hospital in Dayton, Ohio of complications following surgery.

Ronnie was born March 24, 1946 to Alfred (Pat) and Gwendolyn (Dunlap) Fetzer at home in Delphos, Ohio.  Ronnie graduated from Delphos St. John’s High School in 1964.  After graduating, he joined the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War as a Combat Medic with 101st Airborne Division.  Ronnie also served in the Ohio National Guard from 1983 to 1994 ending his military service with the rank of Staff Sergeant.

In 1967, he was employed at Fruehauf Corporation in Delphos where he worked for 30 years until they closed as a welder and maintenance technician.  He worked at various other factories until his retirement in 2012.

On August 16, 1969, Ronnie married the love of his life, Monica Lynn Kraft at St. John’s Catholic Church in Delphos.  They had 2 sons, Ronald Brian and Scott Lee.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters Carlene Schulte and Phyllis (Schimmoller) Burkholder; four brothers, Wayne, Orby, Phillip, and Paul; two sisters-in-law, Suzie Cano and Sylvia Gibson; and one brother-in-law Joseph Kraft.

He is survived by two sons, Ronald Brian (Amanda) Fetzer of Delphos and Scott Lee (Nikki) Fetzer of Van Wert; six grandchildren, Christine (Julio) Cuesta of Lima, Alyssa Fetzer of Delphos, Tristan Fetzer of Delphos, Hailey Fetzer of Akron, Jared Fetzer of Delphos and Jordan Fetzer of Van Wert; four great-grandchildren, Adilyn Fetzer, Berlyn Horstman, Milo and Silas (“Squirt”) Cuesta; four brothers, William (Woody) Fetzer, Gerry Fetzer, Terry Fetzer and Herb Fetzer; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Williams and Sharon Sheeter; two brothers-in-law, Gerald Kraft and Paul (Shorty) Kraft and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ronnie was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Mendon; Veterans of Foreign Wars post 3035 in Delphos; former member of the Delphos Lion’s Club, Delphos Horseshoe Club, Delphos Bowling Association and coached for many years in the Delphos Women’s Softball League.

He enjoyed camping, fishing, throwing horseshoes and darts, working on cars, spending time with family; playing with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and traveling with his beloved wife of 54 years to which he was eternally devoted.

Services will be held at Harter & Schier Funeral Home in Delphos on Saturday, February 17, 2024, with calling hours from noon to 3 p.m.  A memorial service with military rights will begin at 3 p.m. A dinner will follow at the Delphos Eagles.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Humane Society.
