Virgil “Teddy Bear” W. Dickman, 88, of Middle Point, passed away at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s. He was born January 20, 1932, in Ottoville, OH, to Anthony and Magdelina (Miller) Dickman. They both preceded him in death. On June 25, 1955, he was united in marriage to Helen “Susie” Rahrig. She preceded him in death on January 21, 2006.
Virgil is survived by his children: Kelly (John) Rist, Mark (Vernice) Dickman both of Middle Point, and Michael (Sherry) Dickman of Van Wert; a brother, Bob (Myrna) Dickman of Crystal Falls, MI; seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren with one on the way.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sisters, Patricia Horstman and Viola Lambert; daughters, Tina Marie and Kathy Sue; brothers, Elmer, Art, Roger, and Paul; grandchildren, Mitchell and Matthew Dickman; and great-grandchild, Grace Randall.
Virgil worked at the Tank Depot for 20 years as a steam engineer. He was a prior co-owner of the Vandel Truck Stop that was opened in 1963 until 1967; then Dickman Brother’s Truck Stop which was open from 1967 to 1973. He helped to start Thermo-King in Toledo. He was a member of the Delphos Eagles Aerie #471, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Landeck, and Son of the AMVETS. He was a firefighter for the Middle Point Fire Department for 50 years. Virgil served on the Middle Point Council for many years, also.
Funeral Mass will be held privately by Virgil’s family due to the Covid pandemic. Burial will follow in King Cemetery.
